About South Dakota State (1-1):

Zeke Mayo has scored 28 points in each of the first two games for the Jackrabbits, which makes him one of the top scorers in the entire country early on this season. He is a 6-foot-4 guard from Lawrence who should have family and friends in the building for Monday’s game at Bramlage Coliseum. South Dakota State was picked to win the Summit League this season. It won 19 games a year ago. The Jacks can be dangerous from 3-point line, where they are shooting 42.1% on the season. But they are also allowing opponents to shoot 40.7% from beyond the arc.

About Kansas State (1-1):

The Wildcats are coming off an 83-75 victory over Bellarmine. That was an odd game for Jerome Tang’s team, as K-State looked like a finished product at times but also a major work in progress. Tylor Perry has been the most productive player on the roster through two games, as he has already made eight shots from 3-point range. But Cam Carter has also been efficient on the offensive end. Dai Dai Ames had a strong showing against Bellarmine and will look to build off that on Monday. K-State is expected to once again be without Nae’Qwan Tomlin (suspension) and Ques Glover (injury).

Prediction

It is clear that Tang has the utmost respect for South Dakota State.

When asked to describe the matchup that K-State will face on Monday, he responded by saying “all kinds of problems.”

“They are a veteran team,” Tang said. “They were picked to win their league and make the NCAA Tournament. They are well coached and they can they can shoot it. They have one-on-one players. Every game is a new challenge and I’m excited to see how we respond.”

South Dakota State could pose some problems for the Wildcats, especially if they get hot from the outside. The Jacks upset Boise State last season and played in competitive road games against Arkansas and Alabama. It’s unlikely they will be intimidated by the Wildcats.

But South Dakota State began this season with a home loss to Akron.

There are also some matchups that K-State should be able to take advantage of on Monday. The Wildcats are much more athletic than the Jacks, which could lead to some easy points in the paint if Cam Carter and Arthur Kaluma can beat their defenders off the dribble. K-State will also have a size advantage.

This could be a good game for Tylor Perry, too. The North Texas transfer loves to shoot from the outside, and South Dakota State has done a poor job defending the 3-point line this season.

South Dakota State may be able to keep this game close, but K-State should find a way to win at home.
