K9 Iro continues to make progress, has leg brace removed

FOND DU LAC, Wis. (WFRV) – Authorities say Iro, the Fond du Lac County K9 deputy who was shot and “seriously wounded” while responding to a disturbance in October of 2023, is continuing to make progress in his recovery.

According to a Facebook post from the Fond du Lac County Sheriff’s Office, Iro’s recovery has been progressing nicely since the initial incident and has recently taken the next big step.

Officials say this week was a big week for Iro and his recovery as his leg brace was removed and he has been cleared to continue with his physical therapy without the use of any cast or brace on his right rear leg.

Iro reportedly works with his handler seven days a week on specific rehabilitation exercises while also traveling to the UW Veterinary Hospital twice a week for additional rehab.

Officials add that while Iro does still have a ways to go in his recovery, all signs seem to be continuing in the right direction.

“We cannot thank our community enough for their generosity and support of Iro and our K9 fund.”
