Kaliningrad garbage exhibition delights visitors
This Russian exhibition is all about garbage
LOCATION: Kaliningrad, Russia
Sculptures, musical instruments, robots and costumes...
All are made from garbage
The event aims to promote recycling among locals
(SOUNDBITE) (Russian) CREATOR OF ENVIRONMENTAL PROJECT "GREEN DEAL", OLEG PAUKOV, SAYING:"People want to throw the garbage away and that's it. We do not need it and we do not want to see it. And here (in the garbage museum) we see what can be made out of garbage. Not only figurines from garbage are presented here, but there are master classes, enterprises with equipment that show how garbage is melted, how this raw material is pressed for subsequent processing."
Kaliningrad has a poorly developed recycling infrastructure
In Russia, only 7% of waste is recycled
and about 90% of it is stored in landfills
