Kam Chancellor, Vince Hall highlight latest class of Virginia Tech Sports Hall of Fame

Kam Chancellor and Vince Hall — both high school football stars in Hampton Roads before excelling in college — are part of the latest Virginia Tech Sports Hall of Fame class.

Chancellor starred at Maury High in Norfolk and Hall played at Western Branch High in Chesapeake.

Chancellor was a quarterback at Maury, but moved to defensive back before his first season in Blacksburg. He played at Tech from 2006-09 and was part of two ACC championship teams. He finished his college career with 208 tackles and was a fifth-round draft pick of the Seattle Seahawks.

Chancellor played eight NFL seasons, made four Pro Bowls and played in back-to-back Super Bowls in 2014 and 2015.

Hall, a linebacker, was a four-year starter at Virginia Tech from 2004-07 and holds the Hokies’ record for consecutive games started (44). He was the 2006 winner of the Dudley Award, which recognizes the top college football player in Virginia, and recorded 100-plus tackles in three of his seasons.

Hall spent time with the St. Louis Rams’ and Buffalo Bills’ practice squads after leaving Virginia Tech.

Other inductees include:

Bruce Arians: A former Virginia Tech quarterback (1971-74) with more than eight years of head coaching experience in the NFL. In 2021, he lifted the Lombardi Trophy with the Tampa Bay Buccaneers.

Mike Gentry: A staple in the growth of Virginia Tech football as the strength and conditioning coach. The 29-year servant of the athletics department became a member of the USA Strength and Conditioning Coach Hall of Fame in 2010.

Dorotea Habazin: A three-time track and field All-American who was the second woman to ever win a national championship at Virginia Tech. Habazin claimed four ACC titles in her career, including three in the hammer throw and one in the weight throw.

Marcel Lomnický: One of the most accomplished Virginia Tech athletes ever with two national championships and three appearances in the Olympics. Lomnicky became the third Hokie to win multiple NCAA titles in 2012 with his weight throw championship.

Sara Smith: A six-time ACC champion that earned All-American honors in 2007. Smith was also named the 2008 ACC Swimming and Diving Scholar-Athlete of the Year.
