Kangaroo Joey Named After Australian Open Winner Ash Barty

A kangaroo joey at the Australian Reptile Park in New South Wales has been named Ash Barty in honor of the tennis player and newly crowned Australian Open champion.

Australian Reptile Park’s director Tim Faulkner said, “I love when we start to see kangaroo joeys hopping around the park, and we just had to name her after an Aussie icon – Ash Barty!"

“We’ve been searching for the right name for a while now,” he added, “and after Ash’s historic win on the weekend, we just knew it was the perfect fit.”
