Kannapolis Cannon Ballers gearing up for third season at downtown ballpark
The Kannapolis Cannon Ballers began play under a new brand and in a new ballpark in 2021, on the heels of losing the entire 2020 season due to the Covid-19 pandemic. As the team enters season three there, it hopes to continue building as downtown Kannapolis grows up around the team and Atrium Health Ballpark.

The team and ballpark are at the center of Kannapolis’ larger plan for its downtown revival, which had drawn over $370 million in total investment as of August. As the Cannon Ballers’ 2023 season rapidly approaches, more development around the ballpark continues as the team and its leadership try to capitalize on it. The Cannon Ballers begin their season on the road April 6; the team’s home opener is April 18.
Matt Millward, general manager of the Cannon Ballers, said the team is working to build momentum for the season.
