Kansas basketball’s Jalen Wilson, David McCormack invited to NBA G League Elite Camp

LAWRENCE — Jalen Wilson and David McCormack will each have the opportunity to represent Kansas basketball at the NBA G League Elite Camp later this month, the league announced Monday.

Wilson and McCormack, both coming off their national championship season with the Jayhawks, are among 44 prospects set to participate in the May 16-17 event at Wintrust Arena in Chicago. With this chance, they’ll be able to showcase their skillsets in front of front-office executives, scouts and coaches through five-on-five games and strength and agility drills.

“We are thrilled to host this talented group of draft prospects at our NBA G League Elite Camp,” the NBA G League’s head of basketball operations, Malik Rose, said in a release. “This is an incredible opportunity for these 44 young men to showcase their basketball abilities in front of both NBA and NBA G League front office personnel.”

Depending on their performances, Wilson and McCormack could be invited to be a part of the NBA’s draft combine. That event will take place this month as well, from May 18-22. It’ll also be held at Wintrust Arena.

Wilson was a redshirt sophomore forward this past season for Kansas, and started 27 of the 37 games in which he played. He averaged 11.1 points and 7.4 rebounds per game. And he was among the most effective rebounders in the Big 12 Conference.

McCormack was a senior forward this past season for Kansas, and started 37 of the 40 games in which he played. He averaged 10.6 points and seven rebounds. And when the team needed him most in key games, especially late in the national championship game, he delivered.

"I like all teams," said McCormack, asked which NBA team he hoped would pick him up, during a Twitter Spaces Q&A last week for Rock Chalk NFT. "It just — it honestly depends. I'm happy to play on any NBA team ... giving me the opportunity to play."

Neither Wilson nor McCormack have been projected on mock drafts to be selected in the upcoming NBA Draft at the same level as Kansas teammates Christian Braun and Ochai Agbaji, but the potential exists for their stocks to rise over the course of the next week and further. According to the NBA G League release, among the NBA players who participated in past NBA G League Elite Camps are the Miami Heat’s Max Strus and the New Orleans PelicansJose Alvarado.
