Kansas City Mayor Quinton Lucas, Kansas Gov. Laura Kelly and Missouri Lt. Gov. Mike Kehoe are headed to Germany along with area business leaders for a trade mission surrounding Sunday’s Chiefs game against the Miami Dolphins in Frankfurt.

Travel costs for public officials on the trip are being underwritten by Germany-based Bayer AG, which has a plant in Kansas City that makes chemicals for farming. Among the three dozen people going are representatives from the Greater Kansas City Chamber of Commerce, Civic Council of Greater Kansas City, the World Trade Center Kansas City, Visit KC and Kansas City Sports Commission.

According to the chamber, the trip’s aim is to combine “a traditional trade mission with a cultural experience to promote Kansas City.”

In addition to attending the Chiefs’ game against the Miami Dolphins at Deutsche Bank Park, which will kick off here at 8:30 a.m. CST due to the difference in time zones, Lucas, Kelly and others on the trip will meet with German business executives, attend receptions and dinners with German officials, tour a castle and take a river cruise, according to the chamber.

They return on Monday.
