Kansas City-area suburb among America’s happiest cities in new study
OVERLAND PARK, Kan. — A Johnson County suburb is one of the happiest cities in America, according to a new report.
Overland Park ranked at no. 2 on WalletHub’s Happiest Cities in America 2024 list.

It ranks above Honolulu, San Francisco and almost every other city people vacation at. Fremont, California, is the only city that beat out Overland Park.
Kansas City ranked 128th out of the 182 cities listed. Nearby cities including Wichita (118th), Springfield (154th) and St. Louis (164th) also made the list.
WalletHub came up with its ranking by looking at emotional and physical wellbeing, income and employment, and community and environment.
Overland Park scored high in emotional and physical wellbeing plus community and environment, leading to its top 2 ranking. WalletHub also said the city has the lowest poverty rate in the nation and one of the lowers unemployment rates.

“When people are able to provide what they need for their families, their happiness naturally increases,” WalletHub writes.
