The Kansas City Chiefs use a sixth-round pick on this Texas Longhorns defensive lineman

The Chiefs needed to find a defensive tackle in the 2023 NFL Draft and they found him in the sixth round.

During the final day of the three-day event at Kansas City’s Union Station, the Chiefs selected former Texas Longhorns defensive tackle Keondre Coburn with the 194th overall pick.

Coburn, who measures 6-foot-2, 344 pounds, played five seasons for the Longhorns, totaling 95 tackles, 6.5 sacks and three forced fumbles in 51 career games.

“He’s a big dude up front,” Chiefs area scout Jason Lamb said. “Strong, powerful, explosive. And the thing about him, though, for being as big as he is, the dude can move. ... He’s going to bring a big presence up front.”

The addition of the 6-foot-2, 344-pound Coburn provides depth to the interior of the Chiefs’ defensive line, and he could address the team’s pressing need for a long-term solution alongside defensive tackle Chris Jones. The Chiefs have previously filled the spot by signing Derrick Nnadi to consecutive one-year contracts.

Coburn pointed out during a Zoom call that he possesses versatility to play either nose tackle, who lines up over a center, or even a three-technique defensive tackle, who typically lines up over the outside shoulder of an offensive guard.

But he could barely contain his excitement on joining the Chiefs and a player he will play next to.

“I can’t believe I’m about to play next to Chris Jones,” Coburn said with a smile.
