Kansas City man sentenced for January 2023 double homicide

KANSAS CITY, Mo. — A Kansas City man is sentenced for the January 2023 shooting death of his girlfriend and her cousin.

A Jackson County judge sentenced Damon Goodrich on Tuesday, Feb. 21, to 66 years in prison. Thirty years on each second-degree murder conviction and three years on each of two counts of armed criminal action. The judge set all sentences to run consecutively.

A jury convicted Goodrich in a November 2023 trial.

According to court documents, Kansas City, Missouri police officers responded to a shooting just before 1 a.m. on January 8, 2023 in the area of E. 73rd Street and Garfield Avenue.

When officers arrived on scene they located a man and woman both unresponsive in the front yard. Emergency responders pronounced the man dead at the scene. The woman was taken to a hospital with life-threatening injuries and died later from her injuries. They were later identified as 35-year-old Tanisha Williams and 46-year-old Charles Martin.

The teenage children of Williams witnesses parts of the incident, according to court records.

Ring doorbell footage and surveillance cameras supported that Goodrich was at or near the house during the encounter at the victim’s residence.
