Kansas City Mavericks’ postseason run ends with Game 6 playoff loss to Allen Americans

The Kansas City Mavericks saw their 2023 playoff run come to an end Monday night in Texas, where the Allen Americans closed out their ECHL postseason series four wins to two with a 2-1 victory in Game 6.

Thus concludes the most successful Mavericks season since the team’s 2018-19 campaign. And the Mountain Division semifinal series between KC and Allen was a hard-fought affair, with game after game decided by a single goal.

The Mavericks (34-30-6-2 in the regular season) finished third in the Mountain Division this year.

Goaltender Shane Starrett appeared in 54 regular-season games and all six postseason contests. The 54 games is a single-season franchise record. The Bellingham, Mass., native was a three-time ECHL Goaltender of the Week award-winner.

The Mavs boasted three 40-point scorers and three 20-goal scorers. Jeremy McKenna finished with the fifth-highest points per game average in Mavs history and Joshua Lammon tied for the ECHL lead with four shorthanded goals.

Veteran Loren Ulett finished the regular season with 251 games played in a Mavericks uniform, the fourth-most games played in franchise history.

This was first year of the Mavericks’ new affiliation with the NHL’s Seattle Kraken and AHL’s Coachella Valley Firebirds. Seven KC players appeared in at least one game for both Coachella Valley and KC.

The 15th season of Mavericks hockey begins in October.
