Kansas City Mavericks trail 2-1 in ECHL playoffs as series shifts to Allen, Texas

The Kansas City Mavericks trail the Allen Americans two games to one after the KC portion of their best-of-seven ECHL playoff series.

The Americans edged the Mavericks 1-0 in overtime Monday night at Cable Dahmer Arena in Independence, the last of three games there to start the Kelly Cup Playoffs.

The series now shifts to Allen, Texas, with Game 4 set for Friday evening at the Texas Event Center.

All three games thus far have been decided by one goal: Before Monday’s contest, Allen beat the Mavericks 3-2 in last week’s Game 1; the Mavericks beat the Americans by the same score in Game 2.

On Monday, the game was scoreless until the 4:23 mark of overtime, when Allen’s Jack Combs scored the deciding goal (assisted by Liam Finlay and Ryan Gagnon).

For the game, Allen outshot the Mavericks 35-27 and Kevin Mandolese got the shutout in goal.

In the postseason for the first time since the 2018-19 season, the Mavericks are looking to win their first playoff series since the 2015-16 season.
