Kansas City Royals announce schedule for 2024 Major League Baseball season: the details

The Kansas City Royals on Thursday announced their schedule for the 2024 Major League Baseball season.

The Royals’ 2024 season opener is scheduled for Thursday, March 28 at Kauffman Stadium against the Minnesota Twins. This matches the 2019 opener as the earliest in club history, and it’s also the second straight year that KC will open against the Twins.

The Royals will open their regular season at home for the eighth time in 10 years. They’ll end the 2024 season with a six-game interleague road trip to Washington (Sept. 24-26) and Atlanta (Sept. 27-29).

For the second year in a row, the Royals will play every other team in the majors at least once, thanks to MLB’s balanced schedule.

The Royals will play I-70 rival St. Louis again, starting with two games against the Cardinals at Busch Stadium on July 9-10. The Royals will later play host to St. Louis at Kauffman Stadium — two games, Aug. 9-10 — before taking an off-day Aug. 11.

The Royals will play three games against each of the other 14 NL teams, including seven three-game home series and seven three-game road series.

That includes three games each against Milwaukee (May 6-8), San Diego (May 31-June 2), Miami (June 24-26), Arizona (July 22-24), Chicago (July 26-28), Philadelphia (Aug. 23-25), and San Francisco (Sept. 20-22).

Counting Busch Stadium, the Royals will travel to seven NL ballparks in 2024, including New York (April 12-14), L.A. (June 14-16), Colorado (July 5-7), Cincinnati (Aug. 16-18), Pittsburgh (Sept. 13-15), Washington (Sept. 24-26) and Atlanta (Sept. 27-29).

The Royals will be in Chicago to play the White Sox on Jackie Robinson Day — April 15 — and will welcome San Diego to KC June 2 as MLB celebrates its fourth annual Lou Gehrig Day. On Sept. 15, Roberto Clemente Day, KC will face Clemente’s Pirates in Pittsburgh.

The 2024 All-Star break is set for July 15-18, with the 94th Midsummer Classic scheduled for July 16 at Globe Life Field in Texas.

Game dates are subject to change, Royals officials noted, and game times will be announced at a later date.

Here are some additional highlights of KC’s 162-game lineup for 2024:

  • 52 games vs. American League Central teams (13 games across four series vs. all four opponents)

  • 64 league games vs. American League East and West teams (6-7 games vs. each opponent)

  • 46 Interleague games (four games vs. St. Louis and three vs. all other NL teams)

  • Seven home games and six road games vs. AL Central division-mates Cleveland and Chicago

  • Six home games and seven road games vs. AL Central division-mates Detroit and Minnesota
