New Kansas City shop to ‘represent Missouri’ with ‘moonshine,’ chips, cheeses, more

A new Waldo store will showcase Missouri products including legal “moonshine.”

Moonshine Mule will have three or four moonshine cocktails at a time, focusing on different Missouri producers. The owners define moonshine as “modern white whiskey enjoyed plain or infused with delicious flavors, legally.” Customers will be able to try a sip in the tasting room or order a cocktail and stay awhile at one of the dozen seats or at a planned patio.

The shop also will sell Missouri products, including potato chips from St. Louis, candy from Branson, brats from Hermann, dog treats from Beer Paws — which was created in Waldo and now based in Peculiar, Missouri — along with Missouri cheeses, beef jerky, nuts, salsas, coffees, chocolates and traditional smoking pipes.

An April opening is scheduled at 115 E. Gregory Blvd., A, across from Bier Station. Hours will tentatively be 3 to 8 p.m. Thursdays through Saturdays for cocktails, with the retail shop open noon to 8 p.m. five days a week.

“We named it mule after the Missouri state animal. We want to represent Missouri,” said Cynthia Holopter, owner with her husband, Jim.

They also own Chop Tops Hair Co. at 115 E. Gregory, B, as well as another Chop Tops in midtown.
