Kansas college instructor arrested, accused of sexually assaulting a child

A Kansas community college instructor who lives in Oklahoma has been arrested after being accused of sexually abusing a child.

The Oklahoma State Bureau of Investigation arrested 48-year-old Andrew Nyles Lackey, who lives in Beaver County, Oklahoma, on Dec. 13 in connection with a sexual assault investigation involving a child, a bureau news release said.

Lackey is listed as a welding technology instructor in the Seward County Community College’s online employee list.

The Beaver County Sheriff’s Office requested help from the Oklahoma bureau on an investigation where they interviewed a child who reported being sexually abused.

Evidence was collected and Lackey was interviewed. Based on information from the interview, Lackey was taken into custody and booked into the Beaver County Jail on suspicion of child sex abuse, the release said.

In a Wednesday news release, the college said it has suspended Lackey without pay following his arrest.

“These charges are a serious concern and we have taken this step in accordance with that,” college president Brad Bennett said.

In addition to his suspension, Lackey is not allowed on campus grounds or to attend school activities, the college said.

The relationship between Lackey and the child and the circumstances of the accusations are unknown. A bureau spokesperson declined to provide more details through an email.
