Kansas football, Arkansas will play in AutoZone Liberty Bowl

Arkansas and Kansas will meet in the AutoZone Liberty Bowl.

The game will be played on Dec. 28 (4:30 p.m., ESPN) at Simmons Bank Liberty Stadium.

This will be the third matchup between Kansas and Arkansas, which both have 6-6 records this season. Kansas leads the all-time series 2-0.

Arkansas won its first three games and ascended into the top 10 of the national polls before losing six of its past nine games. This will the Razorbacks' second straight bowl game under coach Sam Pittman.

Arkansas last played in the Liberty Bowl on Jan. 2, 2016, defeating Kansas State 45-23. It will be the sixth time it has appeared in the Liberty Bowl.

This will be Kansas’s second time playing in the Liberty Bowl. It lost to NC State 31-18 on Dec. 12, 1973. The Jayhawks started this season 5-0 and cracked the Top 25, even hosting ESPN’s "College GameDay" on Oct. 8 against TCU. That, though, was the first of six losses in the Jayhawks' final seven games.

The last time Kansas was bowl eligible was in 2008.

Texas Tech topped Mississippi State 34-7 in last season's Liberty Bowl. The game typically pits the Big 12 against the SEC.
