Kansas football's game against Houston resumes after 70-minute lightning delay

The Jayhawks are back in action.

Lightning struck in the Houston area with 9:21 left in the first half, pausing Kansas football's game for 70 minutes.

The Jayhawks jumped out to a 21-14 lead over the Cougars one play after the delay. Quarterback Jalon Daniels tossed a 5-yard score to Luke Grimm to take the lead. The Jayhawks' scoring play marked a 21-0 run for the Kansas team.

Daniels has been sensational with his legs, running for 62 yards and a touchdown on six carries. He scored a touchdown, too. KU's secondary also picked off Houston quarterback Clayton Tune to set up its second touchdown of the contest.

When will Kansas football’s game resume after the weather delay?

Kansas' game against Houston picked up at 5:09 p.m. CT after a 70-minute break in the action. The teams had to wait a minimum of 30 minutes after the latest lightning strike to start play once more.

Houston weather forecast for KU football’s road game

According to the Weather Channel, Houston is under a flood advisory until 6 p.m. CT.

Here's what its website says for Houston's forecast: "Scattered thunderstorms during the evening. Partly cloudy skies after midnight. Low 74F. Winds ESE at 10 to 15 mph. Chance of rain 60%."

Can you bring an umbrella inside TDECU Stadium in Houston?

No.

Umbrellas are "strictly prohibited" inside TDECU Stadium, according to Houston's website.

If you're braving the rain and watching the game in-person, we suggest wearing a poncho.
