Did Kansas spoil West Virginia's hopes? Did the Jayhawks pick up a victory, and carry a significant amount of momentum into the offseason? Did Kansas head coach Lance Leipold lead his squad to a third win this season?

Here's what happened, with the latest news first, at the game:

FINAL: West Virginia 34, Kansas 28

The Jayhawks had a late onside kick attempt that would have given them the ball back with a chance for a game-winning drive, but the Mountaineers recovered it. West Virginia was able to run out the clock, and end Kansas' season with a loss.

Kansas scores a late touchdown

Jalon Daniels rushed the ball in for Kansas from three yards out for a late touchdown with 1:46 left. The extra point made it just a 34-28 lead for West Virginia, after that 68-yard, five-play drive that took 1:02 off of the clock. The drive included a 43-yard pass to Jared Casey, who's had another impressive day.

Jalon Daniels throws second interception

Jalon Daniels threw his second interception of the day, on a pass that was picked off by Josh Chandler-Semedo. It was another turnover that killed a promising drive for the Jayhawks. It gave West Virginia the ball back with about three minutes left in the fourth quarter.

West Virginia adds another field goal

The Mountaineers are up 34-21 now with 5:54 left in the fourth quarter after a 37-yard field goal. The drive went 60 yards in nine plays and took 4:38 off of the clock. And it saw another West Virginia player eclipse 100 yards rushing on the day.

Kansas turns the ball over

Jalon Daniels threw an interception in the end zone for Kansas' first turnover on the day. The Jayhawks had been driving the ball well, but now will really need a stop and are still down two scores. Josh Chandler-Semedo had the interception for West Virginia.

The play gave the Mountaineers the ball back with about 10 and a half minutes left.

West Virginia extends its lead

The Mountaineers are up 31-21 now with 32 seconds left in the third quarter, after a 38-yard field goal. The drive took 4:11 off of the clock and went 30 yards in nine plays. West Virginia has committed to the running game, and it's working.

West Virginia comes up with key 4th-down stop

Kansas went for it on 4th-and-short near midfield, and couldn't convert. The Jayhawks went with a run for quarterback Jalon Daniels, and he didn't make it the necessary amount of yardage. With a little bit less than five minutes left in the third quarter, West Virginia took over up 28-21.

Kansas' running game hasn't been the same without Devin Neal.

West Virginia takes the lead again

The Mountaineers are back on top after a 44-yard touchdown run by Leddie Brown. It's the latest example of big plays hurting the Jayhawks defensively. After the extra point, West Virginia leads 28-21 with 8:35 left in the third quarter.

The drive went 75 yards in nine plays and took 3:58 off of the clock. The Mountaineers had been stopped on third down earlier in the drive, but converted on fourth-and-short to keep the drive alive. Brown is averaging 8.2 yards per carry so far in this one.

Kansas returns interception for touchdown

Gavin Potter read the quarterback's eyes perfectly, and intercepted a West Virginia pass and returned it for a touchdown. Then, after deciding to go for a two-point conversion, the Jayhawks went with a play that ended up ending with Earl Bostick Jr. — an offensive lineman — catching a backwards toss and running into the end zone. With 12:36 left in the third quarter, it's a 21-21 game.

END 2Q: West Virginia 21, Kansas 13

West Virginia scores late in second quarter

The Mountaineers drove for a late score before halftime, and found the end zone on a seven-yard touchdown pass from Jarret Doege to Sam James. The drive went 59 yards in six plays and took 1:23 off of the clock. After the extra point, it's a 21-13 game with just 17 seconds left in the second quarter.

West Virginia misses a field goal

The Mountaineers failed to extend their lead, missing a 44-yard field goal attempt so the score would remain the same with 2:21 left in the second quarter. A Rich Miller sack for the Jayhawks helped push West Virginia back on the drive. It's still a 14-13 game, with the Mountaineers leading.

Kansas scores its first touchdown

The Jared Casey show rolls on, as the Jayhawks' walk-on just caught another touchdown pass. After the ensuing extra point, it's a 14-13 lead for West Virginia with 7:26 left in the second quarter.

Jalon Daniels found Casey for an eight-yard touchdown pass. That ended a drive that went 65 yards in five plays and took 2:41 off of the clock.

Kansas has mostly went to the passing game so far tonight, but Amauri Pesek-Hickson does have a 20-yard run on the evening. Pesek-Hickson has 39 yards on six carries.

West Virginia extends its lead

The Mountaineers found the end zone again on another 14-yard touchdowns pass from Jarret Doege to Winston Wright Jr. The drive went 75 yards in 14 plays, and took 6:59 off of the clock. West Virginia is averaging 7.3 yards per play so far tonight, and doing most of its damage through the air.

It's a 14-6 game.

END 1Q: West Virginia 7, Kansas 6

Kansas hits another field goal

The Jayhawks are only down a point now, with 2:09 left in the first quarter, after a 35-yard field goal from Jacob Borcila. The drive lasted 61 yards and eight plays, and took 3:13 off of the clock. Kansas was lucky a pass on third down by Jalon Daniels wasn't intercepted, and it even had a chance to put points on the board.

The Jayhawks have been creative with their formations so far. Their drives, unfortunately for them, just haven't ended in the end zone just yet.

West Virginia leads 7-6.

West Virginia takes the lead

The Mountaineers drove 84 yards in six plays and, while taking 2:50 off of the clock, took a 7-3 lead after a touchdown and the ensuing extra point. Jarret Doege threw a 14-yard touchdown pass to Winston Wright Jr. to deliver the score. Like last week, a big play hurt Kansas on this drive.

Prior to the touchdown pass, Doege found another receiver for a 38-yard pass to gain a significant amount of yardage.

Kansas fails to take advantage of the turnover

The Jayhawks started with the ball in great field position after the turnover, but didn't get any points out of it. Just outside of the end zone, Kansas went for it on fourth down and couldn't convert. Jalon Daniels was sacked trying to extend the play. It meant West Virginia took over at its own 16 yard line with 8:20 left in the first quarter, and it still a 3-0 game.

West Virginia turns the ball over

The Mountaineers' opening drive didn't turn out well, as on their first play they turned the ball over on a fumble. Kansas' Gavin Potter was credited with the recovery. It set the Jayhawks up with quality field position just outside of the red zone in West Virginia territory.

Jayhawks open game with field goal

Kansas drove down and hit a field goal on the opening drive to take a 3-0 lead. Jacob Borcila connected from 46 yards out with 11:16 left in the first quarter to deliver the points. The drive took 3:37 off of the clock and went 47 yards in eight plays.

Amauri Pesek-Hickson got the start at running back for the Jayhawks, with Devin Neal injured. Kansas was lucky that a fumble by Kwamie Lassiter II was recovered by one of its own on the drive, otherwise the Jayhawks would have turned the ball over.

It begins

West Virginia kicked off, a second time due to offsetting penalties, and this one is underway. The second and deciding kickoff went back for a touchback.

The coin toss

Kansas won the toss and chose to receive. It's Jayhawks ball to start.
