KANSAS CITY, Kan. — Kansas Governor Laura Kelly has ordered flags be flown at half-staff on Friday, February 16, in honor of an Olathe Marine who was killed last week in a helicopter crash in California.

Lance Cpl. Donovan Davis, 21, was a crew chief for the CH-53E Super Stallion helicopter that crashed during a storm in the mountains outside San Diego on February 7.

Davis enlisted in the Marine Corps in September 2019 and was just recently promoted to the rank of lance corporal in January 2024.

He has been honored with a Global War on Terrorism Service Medal, National Defense Service Medal and a Sea Service Deployment Ribbon.

“Lance Cpl. Davis’s life was cut tragically short while serving our country. We will not forget the sacrifices he and the four other young marines made to protect our freedom,” Kelly said. “My condolences go out to these heroes’ families and loved ones.”
