Kansas Jayhawks Q&A: KU football’s final record, Zach Clemence’s redshirt and IARP case

The University of Kansas football team has four games left in its regular-season schedule.

KU plays at Iowa State Saturday, then faces Texas Tech, K-State and Cincinnati.

Before the season, I predicted the Jayhawks would finish 9-3. Much of my reasoning boiled down to believing in coach Lance Leipold and starting quarterback Jalon Daniels.

Well, after KU’s upset over Oklahoma with backup Jason Bean at QB, I’m confident Kansas can hit nine or even 10 wins.

The Jayhawks should be favorites in their games against Cincinnati and Texas Tech. But games against Iowa State and K-State could go either way.

I’m sticking with my preseason prediction because I think it’ll be hard to win all four of these games; I expect a KU loss to either Iowa State or Kansas State.

Who could’ve imagined Kansas winning nine or 10 games and having a shot for the Big 12 title? Even when I made my preseason prediction, I felt maybe I was being too optimistic.

But for now, it’s time for another Kansas Jayhawks Q&A. As always, thank you for the questions!

Although KU football will score some points on pure athleticism alone, they don’t have a chance against KU basketball at basketball. In a game to 21, I predict Kansas basketball wins 21-7.

Leipold didn’t mention anybody by name, but Daniels will likely miss this weekend’s game as he continues to recover from his back injury. Kansas cornerback Mello Dotson was hurt in the Oklahoma game, but according to defensive coordinator Brian Borland he will likely play against Iowa State.

I don’t think it’s out of the realm of possibility that Clemence pulls his redshirt.

I think it depends on how good the big-man rotation of Dickinson, Adams and Parker Braun looks, along with what KU’s lacking on the court. For example, if Kansas’ perimeter shooting continues to be a problem, Self could decide the 3-point-shooting big man should burn his redshirt.

KU’s record of consecutive NCAA tournament appearances has gone from 33 (and counting) to 28, ending in the 2017-18 season. Although the Jayhawks still own the record of consecutive tourney appearances, with 28 compared to UNC’s 27.

KU is also now tied with UCLA for most consecutive regular-season conference titles: 13. The Jayhawks’ run of Big 12 titles was 14 before the IARP ruling.
