Kansas man dead after hit-and-run involving bicycle in Lee Township

LEE TWP. — A bicyclist from Kansas died in Allegan County on Friday, Aug. 12, after being struck by a car in a hit-and-run crash.

The Allegan County Sheriff’s Office responded at 10:15 a.m. Thursday to a car and bicycle crash on 102nd Avenue near 56th Street in Lee Township. Deputies arriving on scene found the bicyclist, identified as Paul Laski from Shawnee, Kansas, dead from injuries suffered in the crash.

Evidence at the scene indicates a car was traveling eastbound on 102nd Avenue and the bicycle was traveling westbound. Deputies believe the car passed the centerline and struck the bicyclist head-on near the shoulder of the westbound lane.

A damaged vehicle believed to be the one involved in the crash was located by deputies. They were then able to identify a suspect, who is believed to be the driver.

ACSO is withholding the name of the suspect pending further investigation by its Crash Reconstruction Team. Michigan State Police, Lee Township Fire Department and Life EMS assisted on the scene.
