Kansas State guard Anthony Thomas (12) announced Thursday that he is transferring after redshirting during the 2022-23 season.

Kansas State's basketball team lost another player to the transfer portal on Thursday when junior guard Anthony Thomas announced he is leaving the program.

Thomas, a 6-foot-7, 190-pound transfer from Tallahassee Community College in Florida, was one of three K-State scholarship players — the others were center Jerrell Colbert and forward Taj Manning — who redshirted this past year. He never played for the Wildcats, but was part of a scout team that drew high praise from coach Jerome Tang and his teammates throughout the season.

"Thanks Kansas State for a memorable year," Thomas wrote on social media. "The moments and friendships I've built will last a lifetime.

"But in order for me to move forward in my basketball career I have to enter my name in the transfer portal. Thanks. I look forward to my next opportunity."

More: Kansas State basketball forward Ismael Massoud to enter transfer portal for final season

Thomas is the second K-State scholarship player to enter the portal. Forward Ismael Massoud announced his decision shortly after a season in which the Wildcats went 26-10, finished third in the Big 12 and advanced to the NCAA Tournament's Elite Eight. Tang now has four scholarships available for the 2023-24 season.

Thomas, a Washington, D.C., native, started his career at Tennessee-Martin, where he averaged 9.0 points as a freshman in 2020-21. He then played one season at Tallahassee, averaging 11 points and 4.6 rebounds.

Tang had said before Thomas made his announcement that he hoped to add two veteran guards and a versatile big man through the transfer portal. He now has an opening for a wing player as well.

K-State already has been linked to three top transfer guards: Oral Roberts' Max Abmas, Hofstra's Aaron Estrada and North Texas' Tylor Perry.

Abmas visited K-State last weekend but also his considering Texas. Estrada, who will announce his decision on April 29 has a final four of K-State, Alabama, Cincinnati and Florida State, while Perry will make his choice between K-State, Florida, Texas Tech and Ole Miss on May 2.
