Kansas State's football recruiting for the 2023 cycle continued to chug along this week with the Wildcats picking up a pair of commitments on Thursday.

Defensive lineman Asher Tomaszewski, from Chicago's Mt. Carmel High School, and Omaha, Nebraska kicker Simon McClannan both announced their intentions on social media. The Wildcats now have 17 commitments for the 2023 cycle, not counting McClannan, who is expected to join the team as a preferred walk-on.

The 6-foot-4, 270-pound Tomaszewski, a two-star prospect who helped Mt. Carmel to an 8-4 record last year as a junior, had a number of Division I offers, though K-State was his first from a Power Five school. The Wildcats extended their offer during his camp visit at the end of June.

Tomaszewski was a two-way starter for Mt. Carmel, but projects as a nose guard at K-State. The Wildcats are in dire need of depth at that position, with returning starter Eli Huggins and backup Robert Hentz both gone after this year.

McClannan, who also was getting looks from Nebraska, ranked No. 44 nationally as a kicker and No. 18 as a punter by Kohl's kicking camps. As a junior last year at Millard South High School, he averaged 41.4 yards per punt, with 30 touchbacks on kickoffs and two field goals.

Current K-State punter and kickoff specialist Ty Zentner and backup punter Jack Blumer both are seniors. The need is not nearly as immediate for place-kickers, with sophomore starter Chris Tennant back and Leyton Simmering joining the team as a freshman.

The additions of Tomaszewski and McClannan came less than a week after three-star defensive end Chiddi Obiazor, from Eden Prairie, Minnesota, announced his commitment last Saturday.

K-State was the first Power Five offer for the 6-6, 245-pound Obiazor, a two-sport standout who also had a basketball offer from Hampton. He is the Wildcats' second defensive end pledge, joining Ryan Davis from Glendale, Arizona.
