Kansas State lands transfer quarterback who originally considered Wildcats out of HS

Kansas State has landed a transfer commitment from Minnesota quarterback Jacob Knuth, who, notably, once considered the Wildcats out of high school before sticking with his original commitment to the Golden Gophers.

Knuth announced the news Wednesday on social media.

“COMMITTED,” Knuth wrote on Twitter. “Thank you God, can’t stop what’s destined. ... Blessed to be a Wildcat!

Knuth, rated the No. 30 high school quarterback (247Sports) in the class of 2022 and the No. 848 player overall by the 247Sports Composite rankings, chose Minnesota over reported offers from Air Force, Army, Iowa, South Dakota and South Dakota State, as well as the Wildcats.

In fact, Knuth reportedly visited K-State in December of 2021 while he was committed to Minnesota, though he ultimately opted to join PJ Fleck’s squad. Knuth left the team and entered the transfer portal in April.

In high school days, Knuth was recruited to K-State by Collin Klein, who is still the Wildcats’ offensive coordinator after turning down interest from Notre Dame and other schools this offseason. Klein has since signed an extension to remain in Manhattan while seeing his salary increase from $600,000 per year to $825,000.

For the upcoming season, the Wildcats are expected to remain with Will Howard at quarterback after he took over for Adrian Martinez in the middle of the 2022 campaign.

Howard led the K-State program to a Big 12 championship and Sugar Bowl appearance in 2022. He totaled 1,633 yards, 15 passing touchdowns and four interceptions while rushing for three more scores. The Wildcats finished the year 10-4 after their Sugar Bowl loss to Alabama.

Also in the quarterbacks room is highly touted freshman thrower Avery Johnson out of Maize. According to 247Sports, Johnson ranks as the No. 85 player nationally, No. 9 quarterback and No. 1 in-state prospect in the 2023 class. He is a four-star prospect, according to 247Sports and Rivals.
