Kansas State Wildcats add junior college linebacker to 2023 football recruiting class

Call it another win for the Kansas State football team.

Two days after the Wildcats defeated TCU in the Big 12 championship game they picked up a verbal commitment from junior-college linebacker Rex Van Wyhe.

Van Wyhe is a 6-foot-5, 230-pound defensive playmaker who spent this past season at Iowa Central Community College, where he recorded 73 tackles and forced three fumbles in 10 games.

He announced his decision via social media on Monday.

Several other schools were recruiting Van Wyhe. He also held scholarship offers from Iowa State in addition to Old Dominion, Southeast Missouri, Northern Iowa, UTSA and Missouri State.

Van Wyhe made a recruiting visit to Bill Snyder Family Stadium two weekend ago and watched K-State defeat rival KU in the Sunflower Showdown. It didn’t take long for him to pledge his services head coach Chris Klieman afterward.

He is the third linebacker in K-State’s 2023 recruiting class, which now features 22 members.
