After several months of searching, the Kansas State football team has found a high school quarterback to help round out its 2022 recruiting class.

Adryan Lara, a 6-foot-1 and 170-pound pro-style passer from Goodyear, Arizona, orally committed to the Wildcats on Sunday with an announcement on social media.

“I am blessed beyond measure and incredibly excited to announce,” he wrote, “that I have committed to further my education and play football in front of the best fans in college football ... Kansas State University!”

Lara, a three-star recruit, was previously committed to Washington State but he decided to reconsider his options in early December. At certain points during his high school career he held scholarship offers from Arizona, Iowa State, Kansas and Oregon State. Fresno State was also actively recruiting him ahead of the February signing period.

Lara chose the Wildcats immediately following an official visit to Manhattan over the weekend.

While on campus, Lara saw everything that K-State has to offer, including a men’s basketball game against rival Kansas inside Bramlage Coliseum. It didn’t take long for the Wildcats to win him over. Offensive coordinator Collin Klein offered him a scholarship last week.

Nebraska transfer Adrian Martinez appears to be the heir apparent to Skylar Thompson at quarterback next season, but he only has one year of eligibility remaining. So the Wildcats have been looking to add depth at the position.

Lara will join a trio of returning scholarship quarterbacks on the K-State roster next season alongside Will Howard, Jaren Lewis and Jake Rubley.
