Kansas tornado 10 yards wide touches ground, travels 9.72 miles late Tuesday northeast of Topeka

A weak, 10-yards-wide tornado touched down and traveled 9.72 miles Tuesday evening through Jefferson County, northeast of Topeka, the National Weather Service reported Wednesday. No one was hurt.

Property was damaged during the tornado, which touched down just north of Perry Lake, the weather service's Topeka office indicated on its website. No dollar estimate of damages was available.

The EF-1 tornado was on the ground from 7:56 to 8:06 p.m., the weather service said.

It indicated the tornado reached a maximum speed of 97 mph as it followed a path that began four miles north/northeast of Ozawkie and ended one mile south/southeast of Nortonville.
