Kansas woman takes plea deal on attempted kidnapping charge

Nov. 6—NEOSHO, Mo. — A Kansas woman charged with attempted kidnapping of her teenage son from his adoptive parents in Missouri pleaded guilty Monday to a reduced charge and was granted probation.

Kabrena R. Alexander, 33, of Dodge City, Kansas, pleaded guilty in Newton County Circuit Court to a misdemeanor count of interference with custody in a plea deal. She had been facing a felony count of attempted kidnapping.

Judge Christine Rhoades accepted the plea bargain and assessed Alexander one year in jail with execution of the sentence suspended and the defendant placed on supervised probation for two years. The judge also ordered that she not have any contact with her son for a year.

Alexander was accused of arranging the removal of her 15-year-old son from the Newton County home of his adoptive parents without their consent in November 2021 and the transporting of him to her home in Dodge City. A probable-cause affidavit states that she recruited a Seneca woman, Alexia Tweedy, to pick the boy up and bring him to her, but the plan ultimately was thwarted.

Tweedy, who also faced an attempted kidnapping charge in the case, pleaded down to a misdemeanor in January of this year and was granted a suspended imposition of sentence.
