What do you get the woman who has everything? That was the question on Kanye West’s lips when it came to wife Kim Kardashian’s 39th birthday recently.

Instead of getting her a Body Shop voucher or a box of Milk Tray, Kanye gifted Kim a very sizeable charity donation.

The rapper donated $1million (£776,770) in Kim’s name to four criminal justice reform charities: Cut 50, Buried Alive Project, Equal Justice Initiative, and Anti-Recidivism Coalition.

Kanye signed the donation as coming from him and the couple's four children: North, Saint, Chicago, and Psalm West.

Criminal justice reformation is a cause incredibly close to Kim’s heart, and it’s the reason she’s decided to train to be a lawyer. It was her work helping free Alice Marie Johnson that got her so passionate about it.

She said in an interview announcing she’d be doing a four-year apprenticeship in lieu of going to law school, “The White House called me to advise to help change the system of clemency, and I’m sitting in the Roosevelt Room with, like, a judge who had sentenced criminals and a lot of really powerful people and I just sat there, like, ‘Oh, shit.’ I need to know more.

“I would say what I had to say, about the human side and why this is so unfair. But I had attorneys with me who could back that up with all the facts of the case. It’s never one person who gets things done; it’s always a collective of people, and I’ve always known my role, but I just felt like I wanted to be able to fight for people who have paid their dues to society. I just felt like the system could be so different, and I wanted to fight to fix it, and if I knew more, I could do more.”
