Kanye West drops 'Jesus Is King' film trailer; fans are not believers in release date

Kanye West's highly anticipated (and heavily delayed) album "Jesus Is King" is nowhere to be found, but he has another project in store for his fans: "Jesus Is King," the film.

West dropped a vague trailer Thursday for his upcoming film directed by British filmmaker Nick Knight. The movie, which will feature gospel performances from his Sunday Service Choir, is set to debut in IMAX theaters worldwide Oct. 25.

In the cryptic trailer, the screen slowly zooms in on a light at the end of a keyhole tunnel as his gospel music plays in the background. The image then cuts to a Bible verse from Mark 1:15 that reads, "In the words of Jesus Christ, 'The time is fulfilled, and the Kingdom of God is at hand, repent and believe in the gospel.'"

Fans, however, are having a hard time believing the film will arrive on time following West's many broken promises, including two missed release date for his "Jesus Is King" album and an indefinitely delayed 2018 project titled "Yandhi."

"I wonder when this will be delayed until," one Twitter user commented on the trailer, while others added, "Don’t lie to me Ye" and "Watch him delay the movie too."

IMAX representative Mark Jafar confirmed to USA TODAY that the movie will drop as promised next Friday, but it's not clear which cities will screen the film.

Other fans questioned whether the album would be released alongside the film. "Is the album getting released too," one Twitter user wrote. Another added, "Album coming with it?"

West hasn't announced a new release date for his ninth album, but some of his new songs will be featured in the film, which was shot over the summer in artist James Turrell’s Roden Crater in Arizona.
