Kim Kardashian and Kanye West have finalized their divorce after almost two years of negotiations, according to multiple outlets including People, Us Weekly, and TMZ (who were the first to report the news).
The former couple will share joint physical and legal custody of their four children, North, Saint, Chicago, and Psalm, with “equal access” to them. Meanwhile, Kanye will pay Kim $200,000 a month in child support—which TMZ reports is due the first day of each month and has to be wired into Kim’s account. A source told TMZ that despite the 50/50 custody, Kim “will have the kids the lion’s share of the time.” The outlet also reported that “Kanye’s not footing the full bill for child support—that’s just his share.” Additionally, Kanye is financially responsible for half of the children’s security cost, as well as half the cost of their schooling. Both Kim and Kanye have waived spousal support.
Meanwhile, if Kimye ever have a dispute about their kids, they’ve agreed to participate in mediation. However, TMZ noted that if one of them “fails to participate,” the other party gets to make the decision “by default.”
Kim filed for divorce from Kanye in February 2021 and the process was extremely lengthy, in part because Kanye didn’t want to end the relationship. Kim asked to be declared legally single in February of this year, and the request was granted in March. In documents filed on February 23, which were obtained by People, Kim said, “I very much desire to be divorced. I have asked Kanye to keep our divorce private, but he has not done so. Kanye has been putting a lot of misinformation regarding our private family matters and co-parenting on social media which has created emotional distress. I believe that the court terminating our marital status will help Kanye to accept that our marital relationship is over and to move forward on a better path which will assist us in peacefully co-parenting our children.”
Kimye’s divorce comes amid Kanye having dinner with Donald Trump and white nationalist Nick Fuentes, making multiple antisemitic remarks, and wearing a White Lives Matter T-shirt. In October, TMZ reported that Kim wasn’t speaking to Kanye and had “totally removed herself from the situation.”
