Kanye West for president? Not in Virginia, judge rules in kicking rapper off ballot over fraud

Kanye West can’t be on Virginia’s ballot as a presidential candidate, a judge ruled Thursday, saying people working on his petition effort committed fraud.

The ruling came after several voters filed suit against the state Board of Elections to get West’s name off the Nov. 3 ballot.

Barbara Scheeler wasn’t surprised when she saw news of the lawsuit, because she had her own experience being deceived by someone representing the rapper’s presidential campaign.

Scheeler, 55, told The Virginian-Pilot she was approached by a man purporting to be helping third-party candidates get on the ballot while waiting in line to get into a Wal-Mart in Northern Virginia with her 16-year-old son on Aug. 20, the day before independent candidates had to submit the mandatory 5,000 signatures to the Department of Elections in order to qualify.
