Kanye West is always full of surprises.

During the San Francisco auditions for Fox's hit show "American Idol" a few months back, the hip-hop mogul surprised the judges and stopped in for his own tryout.

"We were in San Francisco, and they said, 'We've got a contestant that's just going to jump into the line,'" "American Idol" host Ryan Seacrest told "E! News." "And up walked Kim and Kanye, Kim pregnant and Kanye enthusiastic and ready to go in there."

The best part about the whole thing? The judges don't skip a beat and play along the entire time.

"So, tell us your name, where you're from," country singer and judge Keith Urban asks West.

"My name is Kanye, I'm from the south side of Chicago," West says.

Urban then asks West what he does in Chicago.

"I always wanted to rap, but nobody really believed in me," he says.

West then breaks out into an a cappella version of his hit song "Gold Digger," which includes "American Idol" judge Jennifer Lopez by name. The judges got a kick out of it, and West earns a "golden ticket" to Hollywood.

"American Idol's" 15th and final season starts Wednesday night on Fox.
