Karate instructor uses martial arts to instill confidence in students

At Tiger Strike Martial Arts Academy in Louisville , Andre Carr is working to keep his students focused. To do that, he's willing to push them outside their comfort zone. "I always challenge my kids, and when I do present these challenges, what builds their confidence is when I put a challenge in front of them and I know that they can do it, and they don’t know," Carr said. "When they do it, it’s a boost of confidence, and the next thing you know, you’ve got a leader in front of you." Carr believes confidence, discipline and focus is the antidote to bullying. His academy works to help kids defend themselves, while also helping them build character. He teaches up to 30 kids who earn various belts as they improve their skills. But beyond each punch and kick, Carr said there's a lesson in compassion. "I start young and I get them early, we plant these seeds, the next thing you know, we have a whole community full of good people," Carr said.
