Nov. 30—ASHTABULA — A local businessman is the new owner of Kardohely's Family Restaurant, 1230 West Prospect Rd.

John M. Morris of Ashtabula recently purchased the popular restaurant from longtime owners, Dick and Joanne Rogers.

"I bought Kardohelys because I have always wanted to own a restaurant and the staff is like family to me," Morris said. "Owning a family restaurant in my hometown is important to me. Our food and service is amazing."

Morris said he started remodeling the restaurant on the day he took ownership.

"So far, I've redone the sidewalk and extended the handicap ramp for easier access," he said.

"I removed some of the booths and added tables and chairs, a fresh coat of paint, new kitchen equipment, along with new bar stools and lighting."

Kardohely's employs 24 people, and all are proud of the wonderful homemade items on the menu, Morris said.

The restaurant offers a diverse menu with something to satisfy everyone's taste buds, including omelets, pancakes, sandwiches, burgers, salads, and entrees that include homestyle favorites.

Kardohely's often features daily specials, as well as desserts like pies and cakes.

There's a separate back room for parties that holds up to 50 people. Morris said he plans to update that room soon.

The staff calls Morris "the maintenance man" because he can fix just about anything.

He's keeping the name, Kardohely's Family Restaurant, because he believes it is an Ashtabula County landmark.

A grand opening is planned for next summer.

When he's not at the restaurant, Morris said he enjoys family time with his two college-age daughters.
