Pence, who is married to Vice President Mike Pence, on Wednesday told a “Women for Trump” discussion in St. Paul, Minnesota, that she liked Trump’s respect for his daughters and claimed he’d “empowered women like no other,” according to The New York Times’ White House correspondent Katie Rogers.
Tonight, in Minnesota, state the campaign really wants to win, @SecondLady is on stage praising POTUS. She says she likes how he treats young women and sees the respect he has for his daughters. “As a mom, I was all in” after seeing how he interacted with her daughter, Charlotte.— Katie Rogers (@katierogers) October 9, 2019
In closing, @SecondLady tells the crowd to go out and talk to a friend in support of the president, and to pray for him. “Don’t be afraid to get on your knees.”— Katie Rogers (@katierogers) October 9, 2019
Critics were quick to call out Pence for praising Trump.
They reminded her of Trump’s long history of insulting women, his comments boasting of sexual assault on the now-infamous 2005 “Access Hollywood” bus ride, and the raft of sexual misconduct and assault allegations against the president.
Man, the Pences must really be worried Trump’s either going to dump Mike from the ticket or try to bring Mike down with him if he’s impeached. https://t.co/mV6B41RGYo— Bill Kristol (@BillKristol) October 10, 2019
I guess @secondlady missed the interview where @realDonaldTrump bragged about walking in on semi-naked contestants in the teen Miss USA pageant. You know, the recording all of America heard when it was replayed during the campaign. That’s how he treats young women. https://t.co/Lm2397NVyz— Joel Benenson (@benensonj) October 10, 2019

I think Mother might be lying for a man who bragged about grabbing women's genitals for partisan reasons... https://t.co/I7GOfekD2p— Kimberley Johnson (@AuthorKimberley) October 10, 2019
