Kari Lake took another page from the Trump playbook. Why I can't wait to not read her book

Kari Lake has a new book coming out and I, for one, cannot wait to not read it.

Lake, who lost the election for Arizona governor in November 2022 — not that she’ll admit it — announced a presale of “Unafraid: Just Getting Started” on May 3. Sounds like a threat.

In what can only be described as a perfect meeting of like minds, Winning Team Publishing, the self-described “nation’s premier conservative publishing house” that was co-founded by Donald Trump Jr., will publish the book, which sells for $29.99.

It’s a business marriage of the two people most in need of the senior Donald Trump’s attention.

The book ships on June 27, according to the company’s website.

Other Winning Team titles include “Letters to Trump,” by the former president; “Our Journey Together” by the former president; and “Crimes Against America,” which is, surprise, not by the former president but by Fox News personality Jeanine Pirro. You know her — she backed false claims by the former president of election fraud and pushed them on the air.

Weird that it’s called Winning Team. Trump lost. So did Lake.

'This is a fresh start': Christina Carilla on replacing Kari Lake

Can lies about the 2022 election help sell books?

But like her political hero, whose scorched-earth campaign tactics she copied down to social-media usage, when Lake lost the election she simply cried foul, filed unsuccessful lawsuits, refused to concede and proceeded to raise millions of dollars based on a lie.

Nice work if you can get it.

The release announcing the book includes a bit about the “sabotaged Arizona election of 2022” — there is no credible evidence of that — and she refers to her “David and Goliath primary campaign.” If that sounds a little grandiose, well, you ain’t read nothin’ yet.

Evidently Lake’s book also “outlines her journey from being the most beloved newscaster and broadcast journalist in Arizona to the leader of the largest grassroots movement in the state’s history.”

She was? She did? Was this in the papers?

What is 'Unafraid' about? A 'Mama Bear,' of course

Still not delusional enough? Don’t fret. In perhaps the best bit of overused, hackneyed cliches trotted out by conservative would-be elected officials, there’s also this: “This is the story of a Mama Bear who believes that politicians should answer to We the People.”

Oh my.

In all seriousness, Lake’s copycat Trump antics appealed directly and successfully to his base, which gleefully lapped up the attacks and the lies. So, for that matter, did the media, which helped Lake remake herself from a local TV anchor to a national political figure, a hero to those who, when confronted with loss, simply defies reality.

Who knew when Kellyanne Conway used “alternative facts” to describe one of Trump’s early lies it would become, not a catchphrase, but a political philosophy?

And when confronted by a journalist who demands facts behind the nonsense? Just change the subject and blame the media.

On the other hand, there’s evidently good money in it.

But at what cost? When, after hearing this nonsense enough people who vote refuse to accept the outcome if their candidate loses, you wind up with a mess — and one that journalists still can’t quite figure out how to cover.

Lake is sound and fury signifying fundraising

At this point — warning: irony alert — media should generally ignore Lake. (And yet here we are.) She’s nothing more than sound and fury signifying fundraising. But she is also mentioned as a potential candidate for U.S. Senate in 2024, and she’s proven to be a dangerous candidate.

Or as the release about “Unafraid” claims, she “became what the mainstream media called ‘The Most Dangerous Politician in America.’”

That’s not the boast she evidently thinks it is.

It’ll be interesting to see who buys the book (and even more interesting to see who actually reads it). And why. The release touts the story of “a woman who takes a sledgehammer to every obstacle she faces.”

Starting with the truth.
