The actor and producer shares her travel tips...

Where’s home?

Los Angeles, but my husband [the film director, Michael Polish] and I also have a lakeside ranch in Montana near his father. It’s pretty magical. In summer we ramble about the hills and in winter we skate on the lake. Hot or cold, either way it’s beautiful.

Best spot in Montana?

We completely took over The Ranch at Rock Creek for our wedding in 2013. They have a rickety-looking saloon with a bowling lane, 75 horses and everything you need for a spot of fly-fishing. It’s a proper American country retreat.

What do you always take on long-haul flights?

Three things: pyjamas, a pair of outrageously ugly but exceptionally comfortable compression socks that Michael cannot stand, and a skincare routine that involves self-administering ‘light therapy’ with this wand-like device packed with LEDs – yes, I’m that person.

Most romantic trip?

Once, I surprised Michael by taking him to Kakslauttanen Arctic Resort in Finland to see the Northern Lights. We slept in a glass igloo with reindeer roaming nearby, and went dog-sledding.

Biggest adventure?

In my early 20s, my friends and I rode camels into the Sahara desert, pitched tents and witnessed this epic electrical storm – it was like watching nature’s best firework display.

Do you ever just flop on a sun lounger?

Yes, I'm very good at that too. The Six Senses Laamu in the Maldives is my go-to chill-out destination.

Are you a keen travel photographer?

I try. I use a Leica M9. I love shooting Glacier Park in Montana; it never ceases to amaze.

Amazing dining experience?

The cliff-top restaurant at the Post Ranch Inn at Big Sur. Two years ago, I celebrated my birthday there. As evening set in, fog crept inland from the Pacific and, before we knew it, we were immersed in clouds.

Where next?

I’ll be in the Dominican Republic and then island-hopping in the Caribbean until Christmas, working on a new Netflix series that I’m both producing and starring in. My plan is to surprise my mum by flying her out to join me for her birthday. It’s very hush hush.
