Kate Garraway has told how she FaceTimed her husband so he could hear the Clap For Carers as he continues to battle the coronavirus in hospital.

The Good Morning Britain star, 53, said although she could not know for sure, she believed hubby Derek Draper could hear the applause from his hospital bed.

Draper was admitted to hospital more than a month ago after contracting the virus, and Garraway often updates fans on his progress after Thursday night’s Clap For Carers.

Writing on Instagram, the TV star revealed she had found a way to join her husband in with this week’s event.

“So our #nhsclap was a little different tonight,” she wrote.

“We still clapped & cheered as much as ever but I couldn’t film on my phone as had Derek on FaceTime throughout! – of course we can’t KNOW but I believe he can hear us & thought at least the incredible @nhs team’s looking after him would hear a fraction of our gratitude.”

Garraway also shared a clip of the couple’s 10-year-old son Billy with a Lego creation.

“Billy made this for his Dad’s carers to show how much he means to our family & to say thank you for fighting to bring him back to us,” she wrote.

“I am hoping they will let Derek have it by his bed.
