During a recent trip to Germany, the Duke and Duchess of Cambridge hit up the historic Heidelberg's traditional market square, joining a crowd of hundreds to make candy and pretzels.

Mayor Eckhart Wuerzner looked on as local pretzel-making pro Andreas Gobes showed them what it takes to create the perfect pretzel loop. After throwing on a white-and-gold apron that exclaimed "wir backen für William und Kate" (which translates to we're baking for William and Kate), the Duchess got to the task.

The couple rolled the dough into long, log-like shapes and attempted to flick-and-cross them, like Gobes does. "Catherine was a little bit more talented than William but they both did a great job," the pastry chef told the UK's Evening Standard. "This type of pretzel is a speciality for the region so we wanted to show them that."

The pretzels tend to be more reddish brown in color, with thinner arms and a thicker center.

From there, the Duke and Duchess continued to hone their cooking skills, moving to another stand to learn how to make "sweeties," or lollipops. They also sampled cake and drank locally brewed beer, according to reports.

The couple's visit is a part of the five-day tour of Poland and Germany. Accompanying them were their two adorable children Prince George and Princess Charlotte, who have quite honestly stolen the show. The royal tour ended today with a visit to a airbus factory, where they gave George and Charlotte a tour of the same kind of helicopter Prince William flies.
