Katie Shumate's 23 points, Corynne Hauser's layup stuns Oklahoma State

STILLWATER — Kent State scored six unanswered points in the final 27 seconds to storm back and steal a dramatic 59-56 road victory at Oklahoma State on Sunday afternoon.

After a 3-pointer from OSU's Lexy Keys gave the Cowboys a 56-53 lead with 44 seconds left, Katie Shumate hit a jumper to pull Kent within one. The Flashes fouled to extend the game and Taylen Collins missed both free throws.

After calling a timeout to set up a play, Corynne Hauser made it count with a layup to push Kent ahead 57-56 with four seconds left. Shumate stole the inbounds pass and was fouled quickly before sinking both free throws to end the game.

Shumate totaled a game-high 23 points and grabbed eight rebounds to lead the Flashes (2-2). She also added three steals. Teammate Lindsey Thall scored 10 points with eight of those coming early in the decisive fourth quarter, in which the Flashes outscored Oklahoma State 19-12.

Kent State will play Quinnipiac on Saturday at 2:30 p.m. in the opening round of the Lehigh Christmas City Classic.
