A new theme park is coming soon to the Caribbean.

Katmandu Park is expected to open in early 2023 in Punta Cana, on the Dominican Republic's east coast, entertainment development company Falcon's Beyond announced this week.

The theme park promises to feature rides and attractions that will immerse visitors into the fantasy world of the Katmandu franchise, with four marquee attractions, Falcon’s Beyond said in a statement.

The original Katmandu Park opened in Mallorca, Spain, in 2012.

"Katmandu Park | Punta Cana will deliver an unprecedented theme park experience based on the popular characters of our very own Katmandu fantastical universe," Cecil D. Magpuri, CEO of Falcon’s Beyond, said in a statement. "Through innovative rides and attractions that deliver unmatched and immersive storytelling, guests will truly lose themselves in the Hidden Realms of Katmandu. Combined with other day and night entertainment, dining and shopping, Katmandu Park will offer an extraordinary experience for families and theme park lovers in the premier resort location of Punta Cana."

The park aims to be an alternative to the traditional "mega park" experience with a concept offering "world-class experiences in a smaller landscape," according to Falcon’s Beyond.

The venue will feature four main attractions that create an overarching storyline:

  • Voyage of the Fathom Wanderer is a suspended theater attraction that will take guests on an underwater mission with a surprise ride element that will lift visitors through the air.

  • Challenge of the Mad Mage is an interactive 4-D theater attraction where guests are challenged to a blaster duel.

  • Legend of the Desirata is a 4-D dark ride attraction that will tell the Katmandu origin story by combining multiple projection screens, immersive audio, scenic elements and lighting effects.

  • EtherQuest is an interactive walk-through attraction with an interactive gameplay journey.

Katmandu Park will include a mini golf course, an outdoor ropes course and indoor climbing courses.

Punta Cana is a popular tourist destination and major resort area in the Caribbean. Between January and September, more than 5.3 million people visited the Dominican Republic, according to the country’s tourism ministry.

After Punta Cana, Falcon's Beyond expects to open Katmandu Parks across the globe, with locations in Tenerife and Canary Islands, Spain; and Playa del Carmen and Puerto Vallarta, Mexico.
