Katy Perry Collapsed on the Set of American Idol —And Took Selfies During It

Somebody call 9-1-1, Katy Perry fire burnin’ on the set of American Idol. Okay, there was no fire—it was a gas leak—but I really wanted to make that reference happen.

In a new promo for ABC’s reality singing competition, Perry noticed the smell of gas while sitting on the panel with her co-judges Luke Bryan and Lionel Richie. “Do you guys smell gas? It’s pretty intense,” the pop singer mentioned in the video.

“We’re getting heavy propane,” Bryant directs to an off-screen producer. Sure enough, the entire audition space had to be evacuated. “I have a slight headache from it,” Perry said as she got up to leave. “Oh, it’s bad, it’s really bad.” Once everyone was outside and the fire department arrived, Richie can be heard saying, “Wow, you can smell it out here. Holy crap.”

While the gas leak was no joke, it’s hard to tell if what happens next is a result of the very real presence of gas or some hot firefighters. As the firemen approach the judges to make sure they’re okay, Perry falls to the ground while saying “I’m not feeling good.” Though she had mentioned a headache earlier, the fall seems a little less serious considering the smirk on her face and the selfies she took while being checked out by the first responders.

“Me alerting the group chat about drama in real-time,” Perry captioned the slideshow.

If it was a moment for the ’gram, the firemen in question did not seem to be troubled by the display in the slightest. Is anyone else getting serious Buck and Eddie from 9-1-1 vibes? Different network, but these guys could easily fit in with station 118.

It seems there was an issue with the pilot lights in the kitchen, which was handled by the crew before they were given their own audition for the series. Apparently, “saving” Katy Perry's life is enough to grant you a one-way ticket to Hollywood. As with Perry’s spill, there’s no way to really tell if those golden tickets were a true gesture or just for show, but I will be tuning in for Hollywood week just in case.

American Idol airs Sundays at 8 p.m. EST.
