Katy Perry and Orlando Bloom Got Back Together With Some Help From Sia

Katy Perry has certainly not let her pregnancy slow her down as she promotes her upcoming album, Smile (out August 28).

In several new interviews, she's opened up about the more difficult parts of her life, including the period when she and now fiancé Orlando Bloom were broken up back in 2017. Now, in a new chat with the Los Angeles Times, Perry says she “wasn't ready for the growth” back then, and that was one reason for their split.

It turns out one of her very famous friends played a part in getting the couple back together: Sia. Perry was going through a tough time in 2017 because of her breakup—as well as the less than stellar response to her album Witness—and leaned on Sia for support.

“She had a real breakdown,” Sia told LAT. “She’s onstage with 10 candied lollipops and clowns and dancers, selling the dream, the joy, the happiness—and that’s really hard sometimes when you’re not feeling it yourself.”

“I knew she was driven and ambitious, that was clear from the beginning. But I didn’t realize that she was so reliant on that validation for her psychological well-being," Sia continued. "She did say, ‘I feel lost.’ I think it was a big kick to her ego, but it was the best thing that could have ever happened to her, really, because now she can make music for the fun of it. Getting number ones does nothing for your inside.”

During this same time, Sia was apparently working behind the scenes to reunite Perry and Bloom. "I’d be on the phone with Orlando and have call-waiting with Katy trying to call me,” she said. Of course, they did get back together, and Perry marked the occasion with a song called “Never Worn White” about love and marriage. “He was very moved,” Perry said. “It’s the most personal gift I can give.”

Now Perry and Bloom anxiously await the birth of their daughter and the release of Smile. In the meantime, yes, Perry has been listening to some of the other amazing music that's come out this year, including Lady Gaga’s Chromatica, Selena Gomez’s Rare, Halsey’s Manic, and Taylor Swift's Folklore. (She's loving “My Tears Ricochet.”)
