Katy Perry Says Taylor Swift Tried To 'Assassinate My Character'

Katy Perry added more fuel to the fire Wednesday as she spilled the tea about the ongoing feud between her and Taylor Swift.

During an interview Perry did with NME to promote the release of her anticipated album "Witness," she had more to dish on her highly publicized feud with Swift.

"Well, [Late Late Show host] James Corden makes me and the whole world feel very safe," Perry said in the interview regarding her revealing Carpool Karaoke appearance in May, according to Entertainment Weekly. "No one has asked me about my side of the story, and there are three sides of every story: one, two, and the truth."

At this time, Perry saw this interview as a great opportunity for her to speak her truth on the drama that ultimately victimized Swift and villanized Perry.

"I mean, I’m not Buddha — things irritate me," Perry continued. "I wish that I could turn the other cheek every single time, but I’m also not a pushover, you know? Especially when someone tries to assassinate my character with little girls. That’s so messed up!"

The drama that led us to this point today began in 2012.

Swift and Perry's friendship was off to a good start. But things hit a rocky point once the "Roar" singer famously dated Swift's ex-boyfriend, John Mayer. To make matters worse, three of Swift's backup dancers left her tour to join Perry's instead. While this angered the "Style" singer, the three backup dancers that abandoned her tour had worked for Perry first.

TMZ noted in 2014 that "they wanted a 30-day out, and we're told it's because they were just waiting for Katy to go back on tour."

In a 2014 interview with Rolling Stone, Swift revealed the origins behind her wildly popular song "Bad Blood." Basically, she confirmed that the song was about another famous pop star.

"She did something so horrible," Swift told Rolling Stone. "I was like, 'Oh, we're just straight-up enemies.' And it wasn't even about a guy! It had to do with business...She basically tried to sabotage an entire arena tour. She tried to hire a bunch of people out from under me."

Shortly after Swift's interview made headlines, Perry took to Twitter to subtweet her new foe.

Recently, Perry revived the feud with her latest single "Swish Swish." The song — which featured Nicki Minaj, who also had an incident with Swift — included a lyric that referenced in the cryptic tweet she wrote in 2014, saying. "Don't need opinions from a shellfish or a sheep. Don't you come for me."

The "Chained to the Rythm" singer felt it was time to fully address the feud the right way because "Bad Blood" escalated it all. Swift enlisted Max Martin to write the song alongside her. Martin is also a longtime collaborator of Perry's. However, Perry didn't see it as her place to step in on his collaborative decision.

"I can't speak for [Max], but he didn't know [who 'Bad Blood' was about]," Perry said. "I'm not supposed to tell him what he can and can't do. I'm very fair; I'm super-duper fair and I’m not one of those people who’s like, 'You can’t do that because I don’t like that person'. Just, like, you do you, make your own choices… I'm not his mother."

Perry's new album "Witness" is out Friday, June 9.
