Kavanaugh Methodist Church welcomes new pastor

Jan. 22—Kavanaugh Methodist Church recently welcomed the Rev. Mark Bradley as the congregations new pastor.

A native of South Africa, Bradley immigrated to the United States 24 years ago with his wife, Gloria, and their four children. He holds a bachelor's degree from the University of Cape Town and a master's from Bond University and has served as a chief executive officer and as a chief financial officer in corporations in both the U.S. and South Africa.

The Bradley family lived in California before moving to Texas where he has served as the pastor for United Methodist churches in Ladonia and Pecan Gap. Even before he was called by God to be a pastor, Bradley taught Sunday school, led Bible studies, served as a hospital chaplain and as a Stephen minister.

In discussing his background for these endeavors, Bradley shared that he was confirmed at Plumstead Methodist Church in Cape Town. He said, "I went to at least 50 di

fferent churches as a teenager before committing myself to being confirmed. I decided to be confirmed as a Methodist as I felt that the openness of the Methodist church and John Wesley's methodology was what I was all about. I taught Sunday school from the age of 17."

As a music enthusiast, Bradley said he has especially enjoyed working with Kavanaugh's wonderful choir under the direction of Dr. Randall Hooper who is also director of choirs at Texas A&M-Commerce.

Additionally, he has rejoined the Greenville Rotary Club and looks forward to being an active part of the Greenville and Hunt County communities. Toward this goal, Bradley will begin a Bible study titled, "The Chosen," beginning Thursday in the chapel at 6 p.m.

On Feb. 11, Bradley will lead the congregation in the rededication service of the 100-year-old building.

While the Kavanaugh Methodist Church was founded in 1896, the present church sanctuary building was completed and dedicated in 1924.

Past and present members as well as friends and supporters are invited to attend.
