Kawashima Umika enters Meiji U

3 Mar – Actress and 9Nine's lead vocalist, Kawashima Umika, is excited that she will be entering university as she will be leading a more independent life where she gets to pick her own clothes, put on make-up and make more friends.

According to Tokyo Hive, Kawashima announced through her agency about her success in entering Meiji University, reflecting that her efforts to balance her studies in high school and work has paid off, although she also added that it had been quite a challenge for her.

"To manage both studies and work, it was most difficult right before tests. I hate losing, so I studied frantically! I tried to remember everything and challenged myself for the tests. Thankfully, I was able to graduate from high school peacefully!" said Kawashima who turns 18 on today.

Regarding the entrance exams, Kawashima commented, "I was able to manage both the studying for university entrance exams and working thanks to my teachers and manager. Also, I used the spare time I had during work. I was able to overcome it by planning within my limits. Also, I went to cram school!"

Kawashima also announced the release of her new photobook and DVD, titled "Umikaze". The photoshoot took place in Thailand, which included shots of her in a swimsuit and with an elephant.

"I was nervous because it's been awhile since I had a swimsuit shoot. I think it turned out to be something that conveys a grown-up Kawashima. My favourite photo is the one of me rolling around in bed with no make-up on," said Kawashima.

She will also be starring in "Papa wa Idol!" as the eldest stepdaughter of Kanjani8 member Nishikido Ryo who stars in the drama series as himself.
