Kayaker rescued from Columbia River near Puget Island
Jan. 23—U.S. Coast Guard crews rescued a kayaker in the Columbia River after his hunting kayak capsized around 11:30 a.m. on Saturday, according to a tweet from the Coast Guard Pacific Northwest's Twitter account.
The man, who has not been identified, was hoisted into a helicopter near Puget Island, south of Cathlamet, Washington, after a crew from Astoria responded to a call from a person on shore.
The tweet said the man, who was wearing a life jacket, was brought back to Astoria, evaluated for hypothermia and declined transportation to a hospital.
