KC Bier Co. to release first canned beer this spring

Founded in Kansas City’s Waldo neighborhood in 2014, Kansas City Bier Co. has never offered canned beer. That’s changing.

KC Bier Co. invested about $500,000 to install a canning line in its production facility at 310 W. 79th St. The regional brewery is on pace to have its first 100,000 cans distributed throughout its entire footprint the first week of March.

The brewery’s top-selling Dunkel brand will be the first beer packaged in cans. Its other six year-round beers and four seasonals all eventually will appear in cans this year. Limited-release beers will remain in bottles for now.

“Cans are lighter, and obviously that helps with shipping cost,” founder Steve Holle said. “They also don’t take up as much space because you fill the whole can and there is no neck.”
